Miranda Schubert

Candidate for City Council, Tucson, AZ

Miranda is a long-time community organizer, public radio manager and former advisor in higher education, running to serve on Tucson's City Council. She is the founder of Tucson for Everyone, which advocates for more sustainable land use and improved housing and transit policies. She also helped form the Transit For All Coalition (TFAC) with other community groups and organizations across Tucson to advocate for more investment in public transit. Miranda also volunteered on Jen Allen’s campaign for Pima County Supervisor (a ROC endorsed candidate and current member of our LCPN!)

She serves on the City of Tucson’s Complete Streets Coordinating Council, where she works to reduce the City’s carbon emissions by making streets safer for all users and making more sustainable forms of transit more attractive for everyday residents. If elected, Miranda plans to explore strategies to increase Tucson’s use of renewable energy, divest the City from fossil fuels, and improve public transit by expanding routes, securing long-term responsible full funding for the system and keeping it fare-free.

Miranda’s Vision

Smart Growth Development

Miranda supports smart growth development policies which protect our natural environment by building within our current urban footprint while protecting neighborhoods. Specifically, she supports using adaptive reuse strategies to preserve Tucson’s unique, historic character while breathing new life into underutilized spaces and improving aging neighborhood infrastructure within the city (e.g., sewer and water lines, sidewalks, roads).

Climate Resilient Infrastructure

Miranda is a strong supporter of expanding Tucson’s public transit system and increasing its service frequency as a strategy for improving our air quality. She also supports the expansion of renewable energy in our the city

“Climate change is not coming to Tucson—it’s here today. Tucson's climate change policies must focus on both mitigating our climate impact and addressing the impacts that climate change is already having on residents. Tucson can’t solve this problem alone, but we can be a leader”
