Jill Davidson
Candidate for City Council, Providence, RI
Jill works for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, where she’s helped expand bike paths and parks in Providence, and works across the local watershed to manage stormwater through green infrastructure.
Jill’s work has helped create alternative transportation routes in Providence, ensuring that riverfront residents are central to decisions that impact their communities. If elected, Jill plans to steward implementation of the city’s fossil fuel-free construction goals, invest in more sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and fully fund and expand public transit.
Jill’s Vision
Advance Climate Resilience
The East Side is experiencing the impact of a changing climate, and we must address serious stormwater and flooding issues. For the last six years I’ve worked for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, where I’ve fought for clean water, green space, and climate resilience. Working with the City of Providence and other stakeholders, we secured millions of dollars for sustainable development in some of our most economically challenged neighborhoods, like Olneyville.
Address Aging Infrastructure
We all treasure Providence’s historic charm, but that comes with an aging infrastructure. We must develop clear paths to address our sewer and storm water systems. We need to come together and get creative about how to address the backlog of requests for sidewalks and other infrastructure issues, such as cost-sharing for sidewalk repair.
Fight for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety and Accessibility
The East Side has wonderful, walkable neighborhoods, so we need to prioritize safety and access for travel by foot or bicycle. This means attention to sidewalks, thoughtfully placed bike lanes, and enforcement of speeding and reckless driving. I am also a strong advocate for public transit and support fully funding and expanding RIPTA.
“For the last six years I’ve worked for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, where I’ve fought for clean water, green space, and climate resilience. We are working like mad with Providence and other municipalities to help them fulfill their stormwater management goals, put in green infrastructure, create safe transportation routes for people and build alternative transportation.”
