Canvass Assistant Director (Summer 2026)

Help lead our team of dedicated canvassers to raise awareness and support for local-level climate action this summer in Vermont! As Assistant Director, you will assist the canvass director in leading a team of 4-10 canvassers by leading a crew of 2-5 canvassers each day and assisting in training, transportation, and planning.

Communications and Development Director
About Run on Climate (ROC)
Run On Climate works to accelerate cutting-edge climate policy at the local (town, city, and county) level. We support candidates, collaborate with elected leaders, and expand the influence of climate justice advocates to drive change in communities nationwide.
Position Overview:
Run On Climate is seeking a Communications and Development Director to lead, develop and implement our communications strategy, including the communications aspects of our development strategy and work. This role will oversee our growing digital team, expand our reach, and ensure that our message powerfully connects with communities, donors, and partners. The Communications Director will set and achieve ambitious but achievable growth goals, sharpen our public voice, and help integrate communications across organizing, policy, electoral, and fundraising work.
Compensation: $24-32/hour, commensurate with experience, plus paid time off and healthcare benefits.

Hours: 30-40 hours/week
Location: Flexible/remote
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Coordination: Collaborate directly with our Executive Director, Board of Directors, Elections Director, Policy Director, Organizing Fellows, and Canvass Directors to ensure communications strategy is aligned with program area and overall organizational goals.
Team Leadership: Supervise and support our communications team, including our Social Media Manager, social media interns and fellows, journalism interns and fellows, and communications volunteers; provide clear direction and accountability.
Digital Growth: Drive substantial growth of our online presence, member list, and activist lists, including by using advertising across social media platforms, with clear benchmarks (e.g. growing social media following from 2,000 to 5,000 in three months).
Website & Content Management: Oversee website content, ensure regular updates, and track analytics to increase traffic (e.g. from 2,000 website visits per month to 10,000+/month).
Digital Organizing: Support our digital organizing program, driving climate action among community members in cities in which ROC is active.
Fundraising & Development: Help lead our development strategy and planning, donor communications, annual reports, and grant-related materials to help strengthen fundraising.
Messaging & Storytelling: Create compelling stories that highlight ROC’s impact, center climate justice, and resonate with supporters, media, and decision-makers.
Email communications: Build our email list and manage regular email blasts to our subscriber list, coordinating with relevant team members to ensure emails are effective, strategic and timely.
Media & Partnerships: Build relationships with reporters, partner organizations, influencers, and other relevant players to secure media coverage and increase ROC’s visibility.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
2+ years of experience in nonprofit, campaign, fundraising, or advocacy communications.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across platforms.
Strong graphic design skills and experience.
Proven ability to set and meet measurable growth goals.
Experience managing staff or interns.
Familiarity with digital tools (social media platforms, Squarespace, Canva, digital organizing software, analytics tools).
Experience supporting fundraising communications.
Experience building and running paid conversion-based digital campaigns.
Grantwriting experience desired.
Commitment to equity, climate justice, and grassroots organizing.
Background in climate and/or political work preferred.
