Latasha Palmer

Candidate for City Council, Tacoma, WA

Latasha was born and raised in Tacoma. She's been deeply committed to empowering her community, and plans to continue that work by serving on Tacoma's City Council, with the guiding principle of putting people and our planet over profit. Latasha served on the City's Charter Review Committee, where she supported a recommendation to create a Climate Accountability and Sustainability Commission with a diversity of experience and expertise and at least 1 youth member.

Latasha's academic background in environmental sustainability, coupled with practical training from programs like Farm Foundations, has equipped her with a solid foundation in sustainable agriculture and urban planning. If elected, Latasha will fight to strengthen the Climate Accountability and Sustainability Commission to ensure it can monitor the City's climate action plans and make sure they are on track to reach community-wide carbon neutrality by 2050.

Latasha’s Vision

Sustainable Jobs

  • Rebranding Tacoma as a hub for businesses committed to environmental stewardship and community well-being

  • Creating thousands of jobs by welcoming socially responsible corporations and green businesses like renewable energy, sustainable technology, and eco-friendly manufacturing

  • Prioritizing clean air, water, and soil to benefit public health and the environment.

  • Enhancing Tacoma’s reputation, attracting investment, fostering innovation, and building a cleaner, healthier community.

Improved Transportation

Creating a neighborhood-centered city with accessible transportation is vital for economic opportunity, educational access, and community well-being. It ensures residents can easily commute to jobs, schools, and recreational activities, reducing barriers and enhancing quality of life. Connecting neighborhoods to affordable housing and cultural venues through mindful transportation improvements fosters community stability and encourages local engagement, making Tacoma a place where everyone can thrive.

“Addressing the climate crisis isn't merely an environmental concern; it's a fundamental issue of safety, equity, and economic stability. Without tackling climate change, we cannot achieve true stability for our communities and future generations. It's about safeguarding our planet, ensuring fairness, and building a resilient economy that benefits everyone. There's no more time to waste.”
