Andrew Chalnick
Candidate for City Council, South Burlington, VT
Andrew Chalnick is a dedicated climate advocate and current City Councilor in South Burlington, VT, running for re-election this March. Andrew is also a member of our Local Climate Policy Network (LCPN). Before serving on S. Burlington City Council, he spent decades advocating for bold climate policies at all levels of gov’t. He lobbied Congress with Citizens Climate Lobby and was instrumental in South Burlington adopting the 2021 Climate Change resolution and crafting/adopting the city’s Climate Action Plan.
While serving on City Council, Andrew has spearheaded the passage of many transformative policies: requirements for all new commercial buildings and residential buildings more than four stories high to install solar, requirements for parking lots of all new commercial buildings to be EV-Ready, and adopting a City Plan where “the guiding principle … is to make policy decisions through the lens of climate resilience and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions”.
Andrew will continue to lead on the City Council and will work to pass future policies like phasing out small gas engines and requiring building owners to perform energy audits and implement cost-effective recommendations.
