Mitch Green
City Councilor Seeking Reelection, Portland, OR
Mitch is a US Army Veteran, anti-war and climate activist who’s been working on these issues before and during his time on Council. He organized marches against ships idling on the city’s waterfronts as well as a campaign for public control of utilities. He helped found the eco-socialists working group through DSA Portland. As an economist, he published research on how to electrify the grid with 100% renewables.
Within his first 100 days on Council, Mitch introduced and passed an oversight resolution that launched an investigation in Zenith Energy’s franchise agreement with the City. He also helped accelerate denser development in transit rich neighborhoods to reduce vehicle emissions. If reelected, Mitch plans to establish a Youth Climate Corps program, advance more policies to reduce car-dependency and expand solar and battery storage.
“We are in the fight of our lives, and we can’t afford to wait. We need to elect leaders at all levels of government who are willing to take on large-scale climate resilience projects, transition away from fossil fuels, and fight for a sustainable future.”
