Claudia Jiménez

Candidate for Mayor, Richmond, CA

Claudia Jiménez is City Councilmember and a fierce community organizer now running for Mayor of Richmond, CA. Prior to being elected to Council, she was active in the No Coal in Richmond Campaign, working to get the City’s Coal and Petroleum Coke Storage and Handling Ordinance passed. She has fought to protect Richmond's shoreline, including against a luxury development on Point Molate park that would have damaged ecosystems. Claudia has consistently advocated for Chevron to pay their fair share of taxes, and on council was able to further this work as part of the negotiation team in the $550M settlement with Chevron. If elected as Mayor, Claudia will continue to lead her community in planning for a just transition off fossil fuels and a resilient climate future.

“I believe that in order to guarantee a future where our children can live safe and healthy lives, our neighbors can live free of fear of being uprooted by fires and flooding, and our global community is not under threat of losing homes, lands, and way of life that we must intervene in the growing climate catastrophe. Major corporations like Chevron will never do the right thing under their own power and move away from the fossil fuel economy: the people have to hold polluters to account because justice will never start in the boardroom. It is vital that we be the ones planning our economy and protecting our environment, so that our planet can be healthy and all of our people can thrive.”
