George Lu
Candidate for City Council, Palo Alto, CA
George grew up in Millbrae as a proud child of first-generation immigrants. He studied economics at Stanford while living in a consensus-run co-op. George later worked at Bird, a scooter-sharing company, where his work covered equity and accessibility programs. He currently works at Meta as a product manager for content moderation. His day-to-day work focuses on systems to prevent harm and violence on Live videos on Instagram and Facebook.
George moved back to the Bay and wanted to settle in Palo Alto because of his memories of the vibrant and walkable community. He is running for City Council because he believes that Palo Alto is struggling to maintain that vibrancy and livability that drew him back - from housing affordability, traffic safety, and vacancies in the city’s business districts. All of these are tied to the work and choices of the Palo Alto City Council, and George is running to drive change and action as a council member.
George’s Vision
A sustainable and electrified Palo Alto
We must accomplish Palo Alto’s goal to reduce GHG emissions by 80% against 1990s baselines by 2030. George will further improve home electrification, EV charging, and solar programs, while working with city staff to expand coverage across rental and multifamily households.
Transit-oriented development
George will also push Palo Alto forward on mode-shift away from cars, and promote the construction of dense, in-fill housing along our transit corridors.
“Palo Alto has to lead on climate, and I’m committed toward a sustainable, electrified future for the city. I’m proud to be endorsed by Run On Climate”
