Andrew Chalnick

Candidate for City Council, South Burlington, VT

Andrew has been passionate about protecting the natural world his entire life and has been active in the fight against climate change for decades. Motivating Andrew are his four children and his deep concern about the world we are leaving to them.

He has been an active member of Citizen’s Climate Lobby, was a long-time member of the environmental commission in Millburn, New Jersey, and since making South Burlington his home has participated in South Burlington’s Energy Committee (including as Chair), Interim Zoning TDR Committee, Climate Task Force (as Vice Chair) and Planning Commission.

Andrew was instrumental in South Burlington’s enactment of its 2021 Climate Change Resolution and adoption of its 2021 Climate Action Plan Task Force Charter.  He was a driving force behind South Burlington’s adoption of an ordinance requiring that all new construction use renewable fuels and the adoption of solar-ready requirements for new commercial buildings in South Burlington.

Soon to be retired, Andrew is ready to work full time on addressing the climate crisis. If elected he will provide strong leadership within South Burlington’s government to ensure consistent and aggressive municipal action on climate.

I’m eager to play a leadership role here in South Burlington by creating and advancing bold climate policy on the City Council.”
