Our Mission

Run On Climate’s mission is to accelerate cutting-edge climate policy at the local level in communities across the country by supporting candidates, collaborating with elected leaders, and expanding the influence of climate justice advocates.

Many climate organizations focus on state and federal-level policy and that work is critical. However, work at the local level is also critical, and it can and must happen in tandem with those higher-level policy struggles.

We believe that those who are passionate about the climate crisis can have an enormous impact by focusing on their own community. We are here to support them in that effort.

Our Vision

We plan to help U.S. cities eliminate fossil fuels and pollution completely. Someone has to go first, and we are here to help them do so, and to do it more quickly and equitably. From there, our work is to get every other city in the country there as well, using the lessons learned from early fossil free cities.

Our Services

Policy

Run On Climate provides direct, customized policy support to local climate champions and maintains a network (LCPN) for elected officials to share ideas, collaborate, and support one another in advancing cutting edge climate policy.

Electoral

Run On Climate doesn’t engage in politics as usual. We provide free customized support for candidates throughout the process of running for local office. We only endorse true climate champions – those who will not only vote the right way, but will also proactively lead their local government on climate – for local elected positions (City Council, Mayor, County Commissioner, etc). We do not endorse candidates running for state or federal offices.

Internships

Run On Climate offers various internship opportunities including roles in policy, social media, journalism, and campaign support. Interning with Run On Climate provides an opportunity to gain experience advancing local-level climate policy.
