Development Director

Run On Climate is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Development Director to join our team. As Run On Climate’s Development Director, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to accelerate cutting-edge climate policy at the local level in communities across the country. You will be responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and securing financial support to sustain and expand our programs and initiatives.

Compensation:

  • Wages: $20-25 per hour, commensurate with experience.

  • Potential for additional compensation based on performance.

Employment Type:

  • Open to both full-time and part-time candidates.

  • Open to fully remote, hybrid, and in-person (Burlington, VT) work arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy and Planning:

  • Identify and prioritize potential funding sources, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.

  • Conduct research and stay up-to-date on climate-related funding trends, grant opportunities, and fundraising best practices.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to set fundraising targets, develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan aligned with the organization's mission, goals, and financial needs, and establish realistic timelines.

Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.

  • Actively generate new leads and expand our donor base through targeted prospect research, networking, and relationship-building strategies to secure financial support from new donors.

  • Help maintain our donor database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions and contributions.

  • Identify opportunities for donor engagement, such as organizing events and meetings to showcase the impact of our programs.

  • Provide personalized and timely communication to donors, expressing gratitude, keeping them informed about the organization's progress and achievements, seeking their input, and asking them for additional contributions when appropriate

Grant Writing and Proposal Development

  • Continually conduct proactive research to identify and evaluate new grant funding opportunities, maintaining a database of potential funders and their requirements.

  • Effectively organize a detailed grants calendar, collaborate with the executive team to gather necessary information, and implement streamlined processes to ensure timely and high-quality grant submissions.

  • Manage the grant application process, including proposal drafting, budget creation, and submission within specified deadlines.

  • Initiate and nurture relationships with potential funders through targeted outreach and personal networking, building connections with past and prospective foundation supporters.


Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or environmental studies). We will consider those who have not completed a relevant degree but have extensive relevant experience. 

  • Proven track record of success in fundraising and development and/or sales, preferably within the nonprofit sector.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including high-net-worth individuals, foundation representatives, and corporate partners.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and deliver persuasive presentations.

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

  • Bookkeeping or accounting experience is preferred but not required.
